This exciting project kindly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and hosted by The National Maritime Museum, offers a rare opportunity to discover the history and life behind the beautiful Kathakali and Bharathanatyam costumes, how they changed over time, what materials they use, how they are worn and the characters they represent.
Learn about the characters, how they tell a story through an elaborate sign language called Mudras and how to repair the costumes with gold leaf.
These workshops will include how the clothing we wear and the costumes we create for theatre have a story to tell, capture our history and represent our social identity.
IMPORTANT: Although taking place in an academy it maybe possible for a small number of people to join the class - please check with the academy.
