I met my dear friend Delaine la Bas yesterday to talk about a ritual installation that we will be doing as part of the tour.
Delaine is a wonderful romany gypsy artist who dresses like a Tibeten princess who I met last year art of the East Meets West project and we hit it off immediately.
Working on an "Out of India" ritual starting with ancient Indian chanting progresses to reflect the journey of the gipsies over 1,000 years ago. What they brought with them will be symbolised through a bag being pulled along the floor. Somethings will be left and somethings will be picked up to symbolise migration - the horror of the holocaust and finally arriving in this country as our Indian singers and drummers come back into the ritual chanting a boat song called Vachapatta. Every person from Kerala knows this song and we aim to get the whole audience singing and clapping then ------- see a Kathakali performance.
Thanks for a great day Deliane ------- Barbara
