SOUTH INDIAN AND WESTERN CLASSICAL MUSIC COME TOGETHER

As part of our exciting UK Tour 2017 our highly talented musicians Kalamandalam Mohankrishnan, Kalamandalam Rajendren, Kalamandalam Rajanarayan and Sadanam Ramakrishnan, will collaborate with the gifted western classically trained musician Keith Bray to create an opening piece of music to accompany the lighting of the sacred lamp on the Kathakali stage.

Using voice and flute to represent the first sounds on earth our aim is to create music that will inspire, uplift, stimulate and focus the senses in preparation for the Kathakali play.

I first met Keith in 1978 when he composed some wonderful flute for my own abstract performance art company - Centre Ocean Stream to represent dawn. He then went on to work with Horse and Bamboo Theatre Company and other groups where he used his creative talent to enhance the performances.

This rare collaboration of Indian ragas and western classical melody has the potential to create something truly remarkable.

These are the flutes we bought in Trissur, Kerala for Keith to compose the music on, we took them to be blessed in our local temple making a beautiful spiritual link between two music traditions.
