KATHAKALI IN LIVERPOOL

21st - 24th APRIL 2026.

We spent a wonderful week in Liverpool  working in four different schools, kindly arranged by Jenny Holder of Liverpool Learning Partnership, and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.  

We worked in Everton Free School, St Hilda`s School, Bank View Speke School, Abbots Lea School and Childeall Sports & Science Academy. 

Outstanding children and teachers enabled Kathakali to be expereinced by around 300 children who accessed storytelling from a different cultural background. 

The Beatles:

As a bonus we saw the childhood homes of the legends John Lennon and George Harrison 

The schools were a pleasure to work with and we look forward to returning in October with our full Kathakali Company from Kerala, India.   

Comments: 

This style is 4,000 years old and I learnt how to communicate with it. 

Kathakali uses a fully-fledged continuous sign - language.
